I met Maria several years ago when I was a volunteer with MCS in Aylmer. She needed a ride to the doctor and I had the privilege of taking her.
I call it a privilege because it was. Most of my volunteer work was just that - work, but with Maria, it almost immediately felt like we were two friends on an outing together. She had such a quietly friendly and disarming way about her that when she invited me in to her home when I was about to drop her off, it was easy to say, "Sure. I'll come in for awhile." She took a family portrait down from the wall and told me about each of her children, what they were doing and where they lived. Her pride in her family is one of my strongest memories of her.
I reconnected with Maria when my husband and I joined her church, the Aylmer EMMC. For the rest of her life, she retained that sweet, quiet way of making you feel like someone very dear to herself.
Rest in peace, Maria. May your family find comfort in the Lord and in many sweet memories of you.
