I had the pleasure of meeting David through the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police Education and Training Committee. I had the chance to work with David and the Leadership Unit at the OPC on the LEADER Course and some other Leadership Training. David was an absolute pleasure to work with and to be around. He was so passionate and committed to his work and that passion rubbed off on everyone around him. Ilearned a great deal from David and I am so glad our paths crossed.
I learned of his passing this past Saturday and was very dismayed to hear the news. To all of his family friends and collegues I share in your loss and you are in my thoughts. All the very best from myself and all the members of the St. Thomas Police Service.

I can barely express the profound sadness that I am feeling at this time. I have so many memories of Waterloo, Yarker & Kingston. Little did we know how many times our paths would cross after meeting in our last year of University; we quickly became kindred spirits.

I was shocked to hear of David's sudden passing, and am deeply saddened for Diane and their family. David was such a vibrant person and I will always remember him being the most enthusiastic participant in the early days of my Zumba classes here at the College. This is a picture of David and his training partner Phil Hutchin. The picture was taken at Phil's Ontario Police College retirement celebration on November 17, 2015. David and Phil team taught together on OPC Leadership courses for more than 10 years. They spent many years on the road throughout Ontario, sometimes as many as 26 weeks in a given year. David left the college in December 2015 to start his retirement which officially began in late January 2016. David was extremely proud of his time at the college. Over the years, he inspired thousands of students. He was a brilliant man and a very talented facilitator. He worked extremely hard and he held a Master of Education degree. David made history every day that he came to work. He is the oldest working instructor ever at the Ontario Police College. His positive contributions will not be forgotten by staff, students, family and friends.

David absolutely loved life. He loved to travel with Diane and experience all that life has to offer. In this 2007 summer photo, Diane and David enjoyed a weekend B & B mini vacation on Pelee Island with Wendy and Phil Hutchin. This picture was taken on the voyage to the island from Leamington. As you can see, Diane made David a very happy man.

David loved motorcycles. In fact, he loved both cars and motorcycles, old, classic, new and more. His first motorcycle was a Harley Davidson "900" Sportster. This is his second motorcycle, a 1000 cc Suzuki V Strom. This bike carried him and Diane to Cape Cod and back. He put many miles on this bike and later sold it to move onto a red Harley Davidson Ultra Classic motorcycle.

David was an avid fan (and collector) of Canada's famed Avro Arrow memorabilia. During a 2-week work visit to Ottawa, he and Phil went to the Aeronautical Museum and gained access to a storage facility. This hangar was not part of the general public tour. Inside, they found a tail section of an original Avro Arrow. These parts once flewover the skies of Canada. A very exciting moment!

During a weekend in Ottawa while delivering a Front Line Supervisor Course, David took the opportunity to fly in the front, open passenger seat of this 1937 Waco biplane. He and Phil Hutchin were crammed into the tiny seat for a 20 minute flight over the nation's capital.

Dearest Kendall and Paige, I am so sorry for your unbearable loss. I am so happy that I had the chance to know your dad for so many years of my childhood; he was like a second father to me. Dear Diane, Kendall, Paige and families, I had the good fortune of having worked with David as former colleagues on the Leadership Team while I was at OPC. Whether we were designing training, teaching together, or just having lively conversations, I could always count on David to lead with passion. That passion flowed into his teachings and in life. Words written state, “The legacy you leave is the life you lead”. David’s legacy certainly is his commitment to living life to the fullest, in the moment, and living his purpose as a leader in encouraging others to be the best leaders they could be. David truly fulfilled his purpose in life through his commitment to leadership, family, friends, and community. Although I can’t be with you in person, I will honour David in spirit at his celebration of life for all that he was and all that he did.
