Obituary of John Westerterp

Westerterp, John of St. Thomas and formerly of Crossley Hunter Line, Belmont, went to be with the Lord at his residence on Tuesday, August 22, 2023 in his 88th year. Beloved husband of Cynthia(Vanderwal) Westerterp. Dear father of Jennifer Annen(Rob) of St. Thomas, Teresa Card(Scott) of St. Thomas, Lori Runciman(Christopher) of London, John Westerterp Jr. of Paris and Kim Phillips(Richard) of London. Loving grandfather of Kayla(Kevin), Tyler(Ashley), Zach(Claire), Sarah, Adam, Nicole(Justin), Chris, Jamie(Robert), Sean, Joshua, Liam, Hannah and Morgan. Great-grandfather and Papa of Lorelai, Sydney, Kade, Vaida, Hunter, Jayce, Lily, Jansenn, Robert Jr., Maverick, Atlis and late AuroraBelle. Brother of Ben Westerterp, Agnes De Groot(John), Thea Ewald(late Glen), and Peter Westerterp(Lineke) and brother-in-law of Elanor Westerterp and Lou Barnes.  Predeceased by his brother Dick Westerterp and sisters Bertha Barnes, Ann DeKraker and her husband, the late Bob Dekraker.  Born in Koudekerk, The Netherlands on April 7, 1936, son of the late Peter and Thea(Vriesema) Westerterp. John came to Canada in 1952. He built homes for many years and was a skilled carpenter. Recognized for the dedication he took in his handiwork, whether building or renovating a home, building a barn or drive-shed, his workmanship can be evidenced throughout the local region. He also served diligently as the Building Inspector for South Dorchester Township. Visitation will be held at the H.A. Kebbel Funeral Home, Aylmer on Thursday from 5:00-8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held at Redemption Bible Chapel, St. Thomas on Friday, August 25, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. Cremation-burial, Aylmer Cemetery.
