It is with great sadness that I recently learned of the passing of both Dr. Hansebout and his wife Agnes. I worked with Dr. Hansebout during his tenure as Chair of the Department of Surgery and Head of Neurosurgery at St. Joseph's Hospital. He was great to work with, he had a wicked sense of humour with an amazing laugh. We worked well together, never an unkind word. I was so sad when he stepped down as Chair. We stayed in touch over the years, but sadly during covid we lost touch. It was just recently I learned he and Agnes had passed away. To Christopher and Diane, I offer my deepest sympathy. It's unimaginable to have lost both parents just a month apart. I would like to share that he was so proud of both of you and spoke of you often when we worked together. May they rest in peace and their memories be a blessing .

I will always remember Bob Hansebout with respect, affection, and gratitude. He was my teacher and later my mentor. Time passed and we became colleagues and friends. Bob was a kind and generous person who did his best to help people with difficult disorders such as chronic pain or spinal cord pathology. His devotion to his family was inspiring. Bob was able to accomplish much in his work and to lead a vigorous life away from work. I will keep very fond memories of this kind and devoted friend.

Dr. Hansebout taught me as an orthopaedic surgery resident in the 1986. Great guy who was passionate about what he did. I remember sitting in the OR at night cooling spinal cords as part of his research on spinal cord injuries! So sorry to hear of his passing. A life well lived. My condolences to his family.

Agnes, Lorretta, and families; my heart is sadden to learn of passing of Robert. I remember him as an adolescent, growing up as neighbours. Our families had inter-action in many avenues of farming. I remember most 2 things, seeing for the first time a motorized bicycle, and he taught me how to dance the tango, rumba and chacha at one harvest parties. he always had time for us younger ones. A great man full of fun and always wanting to make life better. He will be missed by many old friends, and of course his family, and colleagues. May God Bless you at this time of loss with comfort and peace.

I remember Dr. Bob Hansebout from 1958 when he drove his truck to the Valley Camp Coal Company facility in Port Burwell to load coal for tobacco curing. Really nice guy, I enjoyed talking with him each time he came for another load of coal.

Dear Agnes, Diane and Christopher,
I was so saddened to hear of Bob's passing. Thinking of him always leads to a smile. He was a great boss (I worked for him - three different times over my career - first supporting data entry for a couple of his research projects, to supporting him in his clinical office, and then again when he was Chair.) I have many great memories of this inspiring man. I am just sorry that I did not have the opportunity to connect with him of late. Cherish your memories

Dear Agnes, Diane and Christopher,
Sending our deepest sympathies as we remember the incredible man, who poured his heart and skill into his passions. He was a mentor to me over many years; first as a resident, then as a surgical colleague and in our Department roles. Zane and I always enjoyed our social encounters with both of you tremendously. He has left an indelible mark on this world which I hope provides some comfort.

Dear Agnes, Diane & Christopher
I was so very sorry to hear of Bob’s passing. He was a wonderful colleague and friend for many years at McMaster. He was an academic leader who had the very best interests of the Faculty and faculty members at heart. He was so dedicated to his patients and a true champion of excellence in education and research. He was also a hell of a nice guy with a great sense of humour. Agnes, it was always a great pleasure to visit you at your home and I have many wonderful memories of our debates and good laughs.
Thinking of you at this very sad time.

I had the great fortune to meet and work with Bob when he joined the sponsoring committee of 826 Air Cadet Squadron in Hamilton. Bob immediately became recognized for his steadfast dedication, exemplary leadership, willingness to listen to others, and thoughtful decision making. Bob worked tirelessly raising funds to purchase instruments for the squadron band - the Young Foundation becoming our generous benefactor. Thank you Mr. Young. Bob succeeded me as Chair of that committee and with the help of his colleagues, became recognized as the best sponsoring committee in the region. We worked together as "the photo team" at the 2002 Annual General Meeting of the Air Cadet League in Niagara Falls, our first venture into the world of the paparatzi. My thoughts and prayers are of his wife Agnes, daughter Diane and son Christopher. Bob will be deeply missed by many.
