Obituary of Joan Green
Green, Joan of St. Thomas passed away at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital on Thursday, May 23, 2024 in her 83rd year. Mother of Lisa McCormick, mother-in-law of Rick Pakkala and Jodie McCormick all of London and grandmother of Michael(Trish), Kayla, Brittany(Cam), Latecia(Brad) and Mysti. Dear sister of Shelley Scott(John) of Richmond and aunt of Kara(Sean), Darren(Aggie) and Todd(Stacey). She will be missed by her great-grandchildren and great-nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her daughter Joni Pakkala, son Jamie McCormick and grandson Robbie Koyle. Born in St. Thomas, Ontario on October 7, 1941, daughter of the late Percy and Geraldine(Johnson) Green.
Joan had a strong faith and loved her Lord. As part of Joan’s faith journey, in 1983 she travelled to Israel with a group of fellow believers that included her mother and several close friends. That trip had a deep impact on her life and she often reminisced about it.
Joan expressed her creativity by writing stories for her kids, fashioning clothing including her sisters’ wedding gown, writing songs, and sharing her love of music, oftentimes playing piano and singing at church.
She also had a heart for animals and welcomed many of them into her home over the years. Her pets often became the subjects of her children’s stories.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 15th at 11:00 a.m. at Richmond United Church, followed by a brief graveside service and luncheon back at the church. Donations to the Richmond United Church or Helping Paws Rescue would be appreciated. Share memories or condolences at kebbelfuneralhome.com.
