Obituary of Wanda Kapogines

Wanda Kapogines of Aylmer passed away at her residence on Friday, July 12, 2024, at the age of 78. She was the cherished sister of Mike Kapogines (the late Betty) of Aylmer, and the beloved aunt of Kelly Garrod (Mike) of Aylmer, Karen Hunt (Keith) of Aylmer, and Peter Kapogines (Brenda) of Calgary, Alberta. Wanda will be deeply missed by her nieces and nephews: Ryan (Candace) and their children, Sloan and Hailey; Samantha (Hal Smith); Kristen (P.J. Louttit) and their son, Westin; Megan; and Erin (Steven Oliva). Born in St. Thomas, Ontario, on December 5, 1945, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Stella (Maltezo) Kapogines.

Wanda had a heart for her community, forming countless friendships during her dedicated years working in the advertising department at the Aylmer Express. Her vibrant personality and keen sense of awareness earned her the affectionate nickname "Mayor" of downtown, as she always kept her eyes and ears open to the happenings around her. Wanda was passionate about the beautification of her community, paying special attention to first impressions and keeping things in order. She was always the first to notice and inform someone if a detail needed attention, ensuring that her town remained welcoming.

Her commitment to community service extended beyond her professional life. Wanda contributed her time and efforts to projects that benefited the area by serving as a board member of the Aylmer Area Community Foundation for 14 years, and was a long-time member of Aylmer Wetland Susie’s, a committee of Ducks Unlimited. She was also a valued member of the Aylmer Ladies Breakfast Club, cherishing the camaraderie and fellowship she found there. Wanda’s deep faith was evident in her strong connections with her faith family at Knox Presbyterian Church, where she was involved in activities and fundraisers, contributing her energy and enthusiasm to their events.

Wanda's love for her family was deep, and she took immense joy in sharing stories and staying involved in their lives. She was rarely found at home, as she preferred to be out visiting, cheering someone on, or volunteering her time to support others. Her infectious spirit and unwavering dedication made her truly one of a kind, and she leaves behind a legacy of community spirit, and love.

Visitation will be held at the H.A. Kebbel Funeral Home in Aylmer on Wednesday from 5- 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will take place at Knox Presbyterian Church on Thursday, July 18, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. Donations to the Aylmer Area Community Foundation or Knox Presbyterian Church in her memory would be greatly appreciated.
